Vasken Karalian – Painter of Memory, Place, and Emotion
Landscapes, portraits, and abstract works that weave together Armenia, Syria, and the United States into stories of color and light.
Vasken Karalian is an Armenian artist who grew up in the old neighborhoods of Aleppo, where tradition, craft, and resilience shaped his earliest sketches and love for drawing. Decades later, now based in the United States and creating full-time, he paints landscapes, portraits, and abstract pieces that carry echoes of the streets he walked, the faces he remembers, and the cultures that formed him. Each work invites you to pause, look closely, and feel the quiet stories layered in line, texture, and color.
From Aleppo to a Life in Art
A lifelong creator guided by Armenian masters, now sharing his journey through an online gallery.
Vasken’s path began with childhood sketches and grew through years of hands-on craft, from screen printing in the 1980s to working as a drawing assistant in a printing shop, where he refined his eye for detail and color. He studied under respected Armenian teachers such as Hagop Momdjian, Viken Bertilzian, and Vartkes Barsoumian, learning to treat art as both personal expression and cultural memory. After immigrating to the United States with his family in 2007, he continued to draw, paint, and sculpt whenever life allowed, finally embracing his artistic calling full-time in 2023.
